A beautiful giant textile piece surrounded by satiny lilac fabric.
The design on this piece is based on a close- up detail of Knotweed pollen. There are a range of other textiles based on the same theme available to buy in my galleries.
The textile centre piece takes up approximately half of the overall size. It's a piece that took me hours and hours to finish. To produce it I first cut out a piece of dark purple fabric in the size that I wanted and I started layering more and more pieces of beautiful fabric on top of it. Nets, chiffons, satins, silks etc in purples, pinks,oranges,yellows, blues and greens. These fabrics were then layered up with dyed spun silk threads and kept in place with a layer of diaphanous organza. These layers were then sewn together with a random criss- crossing pattern. The next layer was a layer of meltable white chiffon. I embroidered angular shapes on this and then cut and melted the top fabric away to reveal the lower layers.
The throw is padded to give it more shape and would bring interest and beauty to any bedroom. The above photo shows the throw on my own double- bed sized futon. The throw was made big enough to cover the majority of a double bed, leaving the pillows uncovered.
